We already have quantum encryption. It has been tested. Read my lips. QE works. Real world tests of transmitted data, which encrypted real messages in real circumstances. Like an Austrian bank sending financial data over land lines. It is here today. QE will be used in land lines in small tests widely for the next three years. Before it can be rolled out for national communications it will require satellites as it does not go far because of inductive changes or line interference until the simultaneous-equant codes are received by both parties. The re-transmission distance once the code is xored with the message may be "infinite" and asynchronous. The code itself that is duplicated by the sender must be random and it must be sent at the same time to both parties by a short path. This can be done by satellite to ground effectively because the effective interference path is short. How do you generate at one point and send a non repeated signal to two place on opposite sides of the earth? A quantum random generated code cannot be repeated as that will destroy its character and it will not be equal to then other code.

The US and the military has not responded to the public announcements or other communications of the Austrian group. I believe this is because they have no wish to not compete nor do they wish to have routine unbreakable codes used by civilians. This is the promise of QE. Side channel would remain the only way to break codes as QE is truly random. Side channel, the CIA does not want you to know, is the main way all codes are broken now, as since the WWII, most codes are technically unbreakable by pure math or crunching. Even the enigma required side channel to break. Once the GA went to 4 rotors they were blinding pure computer cracking. The effectively ten-wheel code the Abwehr used for diplomatic ciphers was broken by a serious mistake made by a sender.

They sent the same message twice once in the clear. At least that is what the MI said. Jury is out as most of that was said to the public by the MI even given the 30 year rule is in effect lies. The publishment of a lot of data by mi groups worldwide of old data that is released under government acts lifting secrecy, as in the freedom of info acts, may in fact be deception in and of itself.
