it will be interesting to see if 65nm does in fact start at mature yields

I thought this was beaten to death a long time ago. There is no difference between the last 90nm transistor and the first 65nm transistor. That is what AMD has been saying for a couple years.

I also think to a certain degree that some of the discussion regarding Intel's NGA ramp is tantamount to secretly hoping your friend misses a putt on the 18th hole thus putting $20 in your pocket.

I guess it depends on how you bet, doesn't it? If you view this as Us vrs Them, which many here do, then your point is correct. If you are primarily interested in making money then you could have bet on your friend rather than against.

To me, it will be interesting to see if 65nm does in fact start at mature yields... I'm hoping so...

It's very unlikely we will be able to tell. In the past when AMD had only 1 Fab, we could get a pretty good feel for how things were going because we knew the die size and the fab capacity. Now there is a mix of die sizes and it's unlikely that both fabs will be at full capacity so yield estimates will be very unreliable, unless of course they are at an extreme.
