Dear Gzubeck:

I am not snippy. The fact is that H.264 compresses more and thus requires 3 times the processing power of MPEG-2 (.ts). Here is a link to a discussion about H.264 decoding with a HDTV tuner card used for viewing, recording and playback of ATSC HDTV content. These are usually run under Linux rather than Windows XP. Gentoo 64 (Compiled 64 bit Linux distro) allows MPEG-2 1920x1080p smooth playback using Mplayer from ATSC (.ts) streams. These are 19.2Mbps (2.4MB/s) peak. Double data rate ATSC (4.8MB/s peak) streams allow for more fidelity in 1920x1080p content.
