And a battleship is the most efficient system for moving high explosives to an enemy that has ever been developed.

At the time it was. I'm not so sure you could say that anymore, depending on exactly what you mean by efficient. They certainly carried more high explosives than a fighter or even a heavy bomber (even modern heavy bombers let alone the contemporary B-17s and B-24s and such) and they where also probably more accurate than the bombers at the time, but they were less accurate than modern guided bombs and missiles.

I do agree with your overall point that well dug in enemy forces can be hard to destroy from the air (esp. if they are well dug in and dispersed). I think the balance has shifted to the air (modern aircraft carry a heavier load than those used to attacked defenses in WWII and they are much more accurate), but still its awful hard to destroy a decent sized, dug in, dispersed force from the air.

Well israel doesnt have B52s so this discussion is moot. I agree that B 52s wont get 'em all but it will get enough and discourage the rest. Supply lines in such a scenario can be interdicted as well. As for Japanese cave dwellers. Growing up in the 50s and 60s i still remember the pictures of japanese soldiers on remote islands being taken from the caves 10-20 years later because they didnt know the war was over and refused to quit. As good a fighting force Hizbolla might be, they are not nuts like the japanese were and wont be living in those caves forever.
