Most other regular posters have been making good points.

True there are some points worthy of thought....Problem is that you have to wade through so much crap to get to them that you feel robbed having to work so hard for a tidbit. I have learned some things from the liberal posters here, I doubt that they're the same things that the posters think they're teaching me though. I have a problem with posters that start their debates so far out there that I've no common ground to reply. I don't waste much time with the fringe, IMO those people are brain washed. Knock yourself out though Michael, I enjoy reading your posts.......

IF they (the israelis) had realized that air power alone wouldnt work, they may never have targeted Beirut as much as they did in the first place

No, they just have just prepared more ground troops to go in faster - after targeting Hizb. HQ in Beirut every bit as much. They would have been derelict not to target Hizb. command and control as much as possible.

Don't get the impression that Beirut has been leveled. Everytime Israel bombs something, the photographers zoom in on the damage and give the impression that the whole city is gone. It was like that in Jenin, whereas a very small percentage was really destroyed.
