Well said. What Israel is doing in Lebanon reminds me of what Japanese invaders were doing in China in 1930s and 40s. When they could not find resistant force, they just killed thousands of thousands of civilians

The key difference here I think is that in Israel's wars against Arab armies most of the soldiers were conscripts and not very motivated beyond saving their life. A lot just ran. In fighting the PLO the PLO fighters eventually exited Lebanon. But here against Hizbullah they are fighting a force that is motivated and defending their home territory. Israeli intelligence does seem particularly poor though. But some of it is like the US faced in Afghanistan, local contacts deliberately misleading them from what I have read.
