LONDON (AFP) - The Israel cricket team was forced to move a European championship match to the security of a British airbase after protesters disrupted their matches at venues in the host city of Glasgow.

Their European Second Division Championship match against Guernsey, due to have been played in the western Scottish city of Glasgow, took place 150 miles (240 kilometres) away at Royal Air Force base Lossiemouth.

The match was moved to the northeast Scottish coastal site after previous Israel fixtures were disrupted by protests against the Jewish state's ongoing conflict with the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

"We were approached to host two matches due to the cancellation of previous games," an RAF Lossiemouth spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The European Cricket Council and the International Cricket Council said they recognised that the circumstances were "difficult".

"However, everyone connected with this tournament is seeking to make the best of these circumstances by allowing players from every side to play the game they all love," the ECC and ICC said in a statement.

Osama Saeed, from the Muslim Association of Britain, said the Ministry of Defence should be comdemned for letting its facilities be used by the Israel team.

On the pitch, Guernsey beat Israel by five wickets.

— The plan called for the flights to blown up in flight near simultaneously, close enough so that flight controllers would not be able to ground planes, and far enough out in the Atlantic so that pilots would have no place to land.
— The plan was to have the attacks carried out near the 9-11anniversary, but apparently no specific date had been set for the attacks.
— The attacks were planned for "up to 10 flights" on four airlines: Continental, United, American, and British Airways.
— The loss of life was planned to be "comparable to the death toll of 9/11,” meaning close to 3,000 dead.
— The attack was planned as a suicide mission.
— The official said that there is "very good reason to believe that this is al-Qaida.”

Some quotes from democraticunderground.com, a liberal website:

- The UK government mostly lie about these things.
- political ploy
- It seems like this has been planned to coincide with the new terror alert system that came into effect on 1st August.
- can you IMAGINE how they are treating every passenger who isn't lily white? what a horror.
- I've pretty much laughed off most of the terra!terra! crap
- I'd like to think that this is just another fizzy Pepsi can in the NY subways, but they still are calling this a "critical" threat...
