CT is a Blue, Blue, Blue state

Yeah, I don't think Democrat primary voters in CT are reflective of the country as a whole.

I could see a lot of Republicans tossing their vote Lieberman's way

Our enormously popular Republican governor (go figure) really likes Lieberman. She even has a photo on a wall in her office of them posing together. She has asked the Republican candidate to step aside and he has declined. She is now free to openly support Lieberman.
