That was a sideshow. Russia is run by super hardliners now. With energy they are much stronger than they were. Nothing has changed fundamentally.

Now that we've seen what the state of the USSR WAS, it's revealed the myth that Reagan brought them down by outspending them militarily was just that, a myth. They were just ready to drop! They had ALWAYS been WAY less of a credible threat than we credited them as, and economically, they were a train wreck waiting to happen. More flawed intel by our agencies..
