Very good points, John, good luck with it. The relative prices of a house in different markets amaze me. My relative's place north of Dallas is worth about $320K there; it would be double that in DC and probably triple in the hot CA markets. Same house and amenities no matter where you drop it.

That's why I will be renting when I move to northern Virginia. When you can rent a $700K house for $2500 or less and have no capital risk, it's a good deal.
