If you can construe it any other way, parse away.... Won't parse but I will contextualize. KLP: "Wonder if the anti-war ostrichs will EVER understand what is happening" Euterpe: "Antiwar and ostrich just aren't synonymous, K." Followed by "The mistake it seems to me is in turning the Iraq war into a 'for us or against us' issue at home, when people of CONSCIENCE just didn't agree that it was the wisest option at the time." The context is disagreement with the notion that antiwars are necessarily ostriches. The response is that there are non-ostriches--people of conscience--among those who opposed invading Iraq. Draw a circle and label it antiwar. Draw an overlapping circle and label it people of conscience. The overlapping part is antiwar people of conscience. The remainder of the people-of-conscience circle remained irrelevant and unaddressed. Ig, you are entitled to any construction you prefer, but you cannot legitimately claim it as the only alternative. Mine is at least as valid.
