Actually there was a story that US intelligence got the tip on Zarqawi from Al Qaida, in exchange for laying off Osama and Zawahiri. It was in the news, hard to verify though
Probably American misinformation to make the members of Al Qaeda nervous.....

Wrong. It was Jordanian intelligence. They wanted him dead for killing one of their own and for the attack on their hotels/
