Orion -

Note that this test was done with the 2.66 GHz cpus. The Quad G5 is indeed a very fast machine, with dual 2.7 GHz dual-core processors. The new Mac Pro is available with a pair of 3GHz Xeons as well.

Never make purchasing decisions on Apple's (or any other vendor's for that matter) benchmarks. They're always skewed to (somewhat deceptively) show that the latest thing is far better than the last thing to entice you into buying. Sure, overall the Intel machines are a better value than the PPC based systems they replace but all PPC systems will continue to be serviceable for at least the next couple of years. The G5 was a nice chip and don't expect more of a bump than you would have gotten from say a (fictitious) G5 upgrade (the main exceptions being if you are coming from a G4 system or have substantial workflows based on PPC-only apps.) If you need a new system buy one and if you don't, don't. It's not like next years models are likely to offer less of a value than this years ;-)

Underwhelming. I would say no incentive for people to upgrade from current G5s at this time.
