The terrorists are devoted to their cause. Free people should be as devoted to theirs.

This is exactly why assimilation of immigrants into the American culture is so important, engendering common goals and vision of what it means to be a participant in the freedoms of this great country. When identity remains in country (and language) of origin, then there is much less likely to be any willingness to actively embrace and adopt the American dream. Of course, it would help if the educational system and the MSM of our country were to value our heritage, instead of offering apologies for the bold experiment and experience that is foundational to life in the USofA.
