I thought the Likud remark merely related to his rather strong support for Israel, and his hawkishness in that regard. Nothing wrong with calling someone Likud- it's not as if it's a racial epithet. It's merely a legal political party.

Can you explain why you think it is pure unadulterated bigotry?

I think you are wrong about the coming election. I think Lamont will win. Lieberman will get very few democrats, but he will split the republicans- so the republican candidate will lose by more than he normally would. Just a guess of course.

I think Lieberman has a good chance of winning too. He won almost half of the Democrats who voted in the primary. He has I think a better chance than Lamont of picking up Republican and independent votes.

From a standpoint of controlling the Senate (and control of Congress is what the political game is about right now), for Lamont to win in November would mean no net gain for the Democrats.

If Lieberman wins in November, the Democrats lose a seat.

The Republicans have nothing to lose as there aren't enough Republicans in the state to win so either Lieberman or Lamont are the only realistic possibilities.

As I see it, the Democrats have exchanged a safe Democrat Senate seat for a chance of losing a Senate seat.

Playing to win Congress and playing to enforce party loyalty and exact revenge are two different things.

Re. the Likud remark, I share your opinion.

I notice Hugo Chavez called for prayers for Castro's recovery according to this mornings newspaper. Ironic considering both are atheists and Marxists.

I think the Christian thing to do would be to pray that Castro repents his sins before dying.
