Elmer,

In my IRA, they seem to set aside the cash worth of the assignment (which becomes unavailable). I don't remember what it was in a non-IRA account. I remember Brown and Co used to have reasonable naked put margin requirement (but I never had an account with them).

I'm amazed they allow writing naked calls in an IRA at call, since the potential loss is unlimited, in theory.

In IRAs at ETrade, you can write naked puts but need 100% of the exercise price of cash.
