It could be because of novels, vs pure historical content.>> --Mine too! Right now I'm reading a non-fiction book about Sulla. If you are interested in ancient Rome, I can almost guarantee that you would LOVE the Colleen McCullough books. The first one is First Man in Rome, which starts around 110 BC. The last book ends with Octavian becoming the ruler of Rome. I very seldom read a book more than once, but I have read all of these books twice! I can't recommend them strongly enough! You should start with the first one, but it's not absolutely necessary. The Piglet is prominent in the second and third, as I recall, and he dies in the fourth. The second is called "The Grass Crown." <<Aristocratic, admirable. I'm not too happy about being a secondary figure, but you have to deal with what life gives you.>> --Well, he was not Julius Caesar, but he was a little more than 'secondary' in his prime! His family was considered the leading family in Rome. He was Sulla's right-hand man (along with Pompey) when Sulla rose to the dictatorship via Civil War; he and Pompey combined to defeat the rebel Quintus Sertorius (a VERY able general) in Spain, and he was also the Pontifex Maximus. The Pontifex was the #1 religious guy in Rome--a very important post in a country that did NOT separate church and state--in fact Caesar later held that same post. <<I did a Google search for Rome-Piglet and Metellus Pius , and I found that her books are all 5* rated, and seem to be translated into several languages.>> --Did your search indicate he was really nicknamed "The Piglet?" -:) I kind of doubt that he really was. <<I may have to read some of them. Thanks for the lead.>> --You're welcome. If you're like I was, you won't stop until you've read them all!
