Many foreign people and corporations pursue various lobbying pursuit in the US and the UK, and many people try to influence (and do influence) various media- as long as they do not violate any lobbying laws, or other laws, they aren't actually crooked. Do you have some evidence of illegal activities? If not, I don't think you can really use the word "crooked" with any credibility. What I see in the wikipedia article is certainly grounds for suspicion wrt Rupert, but that's about it. Crooked is a fairly concrete term, in my book- but perhaps we use it differently.
