There is "truth" if you believe there is.- actual truth is not really necessary, and isn't that completely understandable? It's very easy to do the "I'm human and you're not" thing- check out the posts on SI where people call other groups of people roaches (that's a popular one), or vermin, or any of the other classic propaganda names. It's so common that HAS to be one of the most understandable bigotries. Who doesn't understand why the Nazis wanted to think the Jews, and the gays, and the Gypsies and all those other groups they hated, were subhuman? It's much easier to coalesce a group of people around hatred, and it's so convenient to hate a group of your fellow men if you can pretend that they really aren't your fellow men- they're really some sort of subhuman group, and once you coalesce your group around hatred of your fellow (subhuman) men, the next logical step is to get physical, and the next step after that is to kill them- and if you are going to kill them it makes a lot of sense to distance yourself from the act psychologically, so you don't have to imagine that people would actually do that to you (person that you are), so if they aren't actually people, and are really subhuman vermin.roaches.whatever...

It all makes complete sense. It's not very nice, and I wish people weren't like that, but it really is quite understandable.
