You must have lived in some very strange places in order to not have seen bananas in Germany. Every supermarket has and has had lots of them for ages.

It was in the 70's on a military base near nuremberg - you aren't kidding - it was a strange place - all those silly german kids and their crazy ways! Always knocking over our snowman! I remember energy chaos and many things not being available - but that was a long time ago and is possible my memory very wrong.

We would go into the local markets and some local grocery store and not find them there either - mom couldn't make banana splits without bananas you see. Who eats bananas and ice cream with six feet of snow outside? Maybe they saw the americans GI's coming and hid them - hehe. Dad always said they never gave him the good beer - just the cheap watered down stuff - hehe.

HAHA - I see there are still grey skies everywhere! When we moved to hawaii we had lots of banana trees in our backyard - always lots of banana splits and the hawaiian kids were much friendlier than those german kids - but that isn't saying much - hehe. The old base becoming a shopping mall - HAHA - classic - GO OPRAH! Globalize the world with shopping machine princess!
