I mentioned many days ago that today's government in Israel is the worst ever and because it's decisions so many people lost their lives. It is my understanding that most Israelis agree with this (even that I disagree with some points of Shavit) I only hope that they will not only removed from office but suffer the consequences. "By relegating their fate to a paragraph in the preamble, which then immediately turns to Hizbullah's demand for the release of Lebanese terrorists held in Israeli jails, the resolution all but eliminates any possibility of their returning home." * It should be assumed that Hizbullah's presumptive victory in its war against Israel will act as a catalyst for violence by Hizbullah allies in Iraq against the Iraqi government and coalition forces in the weeks to come. * Iran emerges as the main victor in the current war. * By handing a victory to Hizbullah, the resolution strengthens the belief of millions of supporters of jihad throughout the world that their side is winning and that they should redouble efforts to achieve their objectives of destroying Israel and running the US out of the Middle East.

I disagree. I think much of what you say about the war is true. But the war Olmert is losing is not the physical war. He could win that. But I believe the cost for the future would be huge. Should Olmert have controlled the press better, I do not know how he could sacrifice the freedom of the press in order to control the message that is put out to the world. So I wonder, what did the US offer Olmert that caused him, and his cabinet to agree to what appears to be a bad deal. What has Lebanon agreed to that is not being published? Israel can still order Nasrallah's death, if it becomes an necessary. Israel still has a very low casualty rate, and as the Israeli spokesman said, The true effect of the war will not be felt by Hizbollah until the Lebanese go back to their homes and find large bumpy parking lots. An advertising campaign at that point telling the lebanese that if hizbollah rearms, Israel will be back, will certainly be of some effect. In the meantime, Israel is free to concentrate on Hamas, and solving their problems with palestine. If Olmert has bought enough time, and peace to effectively wipe out the leadership of hamas, he has achieved a victory.
