But that's a different thing entirely than war with a state, like Iraq or Iran, with a large, modern army, or war with Hizballah, which is a quasi-army which doesn't adhere to the rules of war (no uniforms, they put their bases in civilian neighborhoods).

War between states is most likely a thing of the past. The EU is the new model for interaction between states.

I think Asia will not be far behind in following that model. North Korea is the last hold out and it is clear that isolating that regime will ultimately triumph.

Even the dispute between Taiwan and China will most likely not end up in war. There may be some cliff hangers and a lot of posturing before that dispute is settled, but the actual chances for military action is unlikely. They are smart enough to figure out no one will win in armed conflict.

The ME will depend on us, the US, as the sole super power in the world to set the example and to find a meaningful and lasting peace.

It is unlikely that this current administration has the intellectual capacity to be able to find a peaceful solution, but this administration will not be in power in less than 2 1/2 years.

IMO any administration following this one, will look terrific in comparison and some sort of peaceful resolution will be concluded.

The next generation of warfare will purely be asymmetric and can only be fought as a police action and in the worst case will need international cooperation.
