hedge funds aren't any panacea, I know tons of people who lost a lot of money in hedge funds, and many of them shut down as soon as the bear market really took hold.

Average hedge fund returns are much lower as measured by hedge fund indices. They are a bit better than mutual funds though and less volatile. Plenty of hedge funds close down all the time. Of course there are some spectacular hedge funds...

Am surprised what you say about Bogle. Doesn't he just think people should buy one of his index funds?
