Thanks, I have been reading up on some of the messages on the subject.

Many civilians are trained up on the use of radioactive sources these days. There are all sorts of applications in use.

The most important aspect of any radioactive source is whether it is in a sealed form or not. The two risks;- sealed radioactive sources as opposed to unsealed radioactive sources (i.e a powder that can be inhaled for example) are at completely opposite ends of the risk spectrum.

An unfired DU round is more or less a sealed form of short range radioactivity. Once fired and corroding, it is effectively an unsealed form of radioactive source.
