That's a popular joke in Alaska, too.

There's another yarn that goes something like:

"If you carry a .44 magnum (aka "the most powerful handgun in the whirled," Dirty Harry's piece) in Grizzly Country, you should file off the front sight."

"Why?" you ask?

"So it doesn't hurt so much when the bear shoves it up yer bum."

NB: bum is a euphemism for a bodily orifice.

NB2: A .44 magnum is better than no gun at all, in my view. Best to carry a .375 H&H magnum or 12 gauge with slugs.

Would a 50-caliber rifle (the type used to penetrate tank armor) solve this problem? :-)
