Oh come on Tim. Those are services, not monopolies. If those are monopolies, you might as well count the military, the judicial system and police. And that is just silly.

Big Oil currently has zero competition. Zero. They're all in cahoots. Every single one of them. Except Chavez which is the main reason Bushies hate him.

Because they're all of the same mind-set. Against regulation, against limiting profits, against fairness, against re-investment, against environmentalism, against clean fuels, and pro war because that makes them money. They have so much money now they think they're above all laws. And with the current government, they are because no one will even begin to discipline them.
