Pulitzer Prize-hopeful Gustave Jaeger > President George W Bush and vice president Dick Cheney were convinced that an unsuccessful Israeli bombing campaign against Hezbollah could legitimate Israel's security concerns and also serve as a prelude to a potential US pre-emptive attack to destroy Iran's nuclear installations.

World authority, Searle Sennett, writing from his perch in a tree in darkest Africa responds:

As far as the neocons are concerned I would say it is true that whatever happens is a reason to make war on Iran, even a clear provocation that Ahmadinejad dared to show his face on CBS. However, as far as Cheney and Bush are concerned, I would say that a disastrous air campaign in Iran could easily put the same coffee on their faces as Olmert and Peretz are wiping off theirs' right now and besmirch their political futures forever. Don't forget that the illustrious Democratic Party is now rampant after the defeat of Bush-lover, Lieberman, and they anticipate stunning victories over the GOP in the forthcoming election under their new Joan-of-Arc figurehead, Hillary Clinton. In the circumstances, I don't believe brave men like Cheney and Bush would dare to put a foot wrong to risk their political careers and, who knows, maybe even face a Nuremberg-type trial as war criminals.

Phil with a different philosophy thinks you give the Bush gang too much credit. They ain't that clever!

That said, when the time has come for military action against Iran, they will find a multitude of reasons which will no doubt include the Hezbolllah and Hamas and Syria, and some more WMD scares, etc.

A complete defeat of Hezbollah would not in itself have caused Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions, or resulted in US'real to warmly embrace Iran.
