The Bush clan didn't object to the U.S. getting into WWII, they just thought FDR was backing the wrong side.

Actually, it was the GOP that fought the US going into WW II. They made FDR's life hell.

tejek...I don't think it was the Republican Party in general that wanted to stay out of WWII.

I know that Lindburgh and others led an isolationist faction, but I don't think it was general feeling among most republicans.

I believe by 1940 it was sort of a general consensus in the country that we would have to fight Hitler eventually. And I think it was understood by most Americans (republicans included) that it would be better to do so while England was still a viable ally.
