It sure does feel like there is an evil in the world and that the good people aren't reacting well to it, nor fighting it in an effective way. So let's start by defining the evil. The evil I see in the world is a cult of people who seek an illusary afterlife and believe that by killing non-believers in their religion, they can achieve that afterlife, as well as their earthly goals. They don't value life and therefore see no problem with taking life, even if it is innocent life.

Then the good people are reacting to it with ever increasing spirals of violence, which feeds on the evil people's cause, because it helps them recruit by making their situation worse, which leads their target recruits to hate the good people and their values even more.

That is the problem with evil. People don't really believe in evil, but it exists as surely as the sun or moon and it is insidious. Once it takes hold, it's like cancer and it's very hard to eradicate while keeping the host alive.
