Lot's of types of 'freedom' (religious, economic, social, etc., etc.)

Check out the annual Forbes rankings for ECONOMIC FREEDOM (freedom in Capital formation, freedom from excessive bureaucratic regulations impeding business, low taxes) and you'll see that most years Honk Kong and Singapore rank far ahead of the US in 'economic freedom' (just as Panama, Switzerland, Austria rank ahead of us in financial privacy), and *many* countries offer lower taxes and lesser bureaucracy, greater social freedoms, etc.

The US is usually pretty high in most rankings for 'freedoms'... but we HAVE been becoming more and more bureaucratic over the years, the incarceration rate is world-leading (implying that either our people are more 'criminally inclined' or more stupid at criminality --- both of which I reject --- or that we have many more laws and social prohibitions then others do), and our TAX BURDEN has been rising for a long time.
