If those warnings were "real", does anyone ACTUALLY believe they would let them out.. From Cheney and the neocon's point of view, the only person they had to keep in the dark was Bush Jr. Bush Jr. was told that the most important things in the world in August 2001 was mountain bikes and stem cells. It's an unfortunant bottleneck of our bureacracy that everyone puts as their highest priority what the President tells them to put as their highest priority. Cheney spoke for the President, all the while the President wasn't reading newspapers or getting information from anyone except those people let into the office by Cheney. Bush Jr. was just happy to have people fawn over him and didn't care if Cheney made the final recommendations. In the mean time Cheney could just forbid the FBI from talking to the CIA or whatever else seemed necessary to be sure that the very real "hair on fire" alerts did not get to anyone who could have done anything about it, like airport screeners or the pilots. Why would Cheney risk being caught with bombs when he had two of the biggest idiots in the world, Bin Laden and Bush Jr. playing right into his scheme?
