Why would I want to do that?

If I wanted to multiply two numbers, I'd do it in my head, or use a calculator, my computer, or my fingers, not necessarily in that order<g>

Sheesh! You guys make something simple like multiplying 6 x 8
far more complicated than it needs to be:-)

And you don't even get paid by the digit!!!

btw, I said that I don't know anything about slide rules
so the purpose for the pop quiz is unclear!
