That blogger wasn't really talking about fear of economic reversals per se. She was in a drama queen frenzy over the mere thought of having to take a boring job.

Folks who lived during the depression were willing to take any job in order to survive and were glad to get the work.
My dad and my mother-in-law were products of the depression and I'm well aware of the mindset it left with many people.

It was not a mindset shared by that blogger. She seemed to be saying that she'd rather be on welfare than "trapped" in a boring job. She saw welfare as an escape route when it really shouldn't be anything more than a safety net. The two are not the same, imo.
