Let me just say that I think that most of the opposition to the welfare state comes from social conservatism, not libertarianism, and general Republican partisanship. That's not to say that libertarianism would not want to dismantle the welfare state, but it does so for different reasons. Anyway, libertarians have never been numerous enough to wane very much, let alone effectively oppose anything.

So my reaction to that piece was my usual reaction to intellectual sloppiness exhibited by the failure to differentiate in addition to the arrogance of attributing his strawman to an ideology near and dear to me .
