>Your analogy is off the mark. Let me counter with a more analogous analogy...

Let me counter with an even more analogous one...

>Your neighbor's teenager is a known delinquent. He has killed neighborhood cats and dogs. Then one day, he kidnaps your son. You know he did it because your wife saw him do it, but the local police don't take any action.

The teenager has gone into hiding, and you know that one kid in town is harboring him, but you don't know who it is.

Therefore, you take matters into your own hands.

You go over to the houses of every kid in town, and brush their parents aside and start beating every single one of them senseless until you finally find the one kid who tells you where your son is.

Would you say the punishment is reasonable or proportionate?

Definitely. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. We would have anarchy if everyone did what you describe.
