Islamist jailed for threats against Danish PM
Reuters ^ | August 17, 2006

A leader of the Danish offshoot of Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir was sentenced to three months in prison by a Copenhagen court on Thursday for threatening Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Fadi Abdullatif, the spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir ("Party of Liberation" in Arabic), was found guilty of threatening Rasmussen in fliers distributed in 2004 calling for the elimination of Western leaders who would prevent Muslims from joining the insurgency in Iraq, a court official said.

Abdullatif was also found guilty of breaking anti-racism laws by calling for the killing of Jews on the Islamist organisation's Danish Web site.

Abdullatif has appealed the decision of the Copenhagen municipal court, Danish media reported.

In 2004, the director of public prosecution in Denmark ruled that Hizb ut-Tahrir was legal in the country, despite demands from several political parties to ban the organisation.

Could Islam and democracy be incompatible?
Question :What is the islamic understanding about democracy, Is there any place for it in islam.

Answer :The common form of democracy prevalent at the moment is representative democracy, in which the citizens do not exercise their right of legislating and issuing political decrees in person, but rather through representatives chosen by them. The constitution of a democratic country will be largely influenced by the needs and wants of its people. Thus, if its people want casinos, bars, gay marriages, prostitution, etc. then with sufficient public pressure, all these vices can be accommodated for. From this, it becomes simple to understand that there can never be scope for a democratic rule from the Islamic point of view. and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai
