this is where bush made a huge error not taking out Sadr a couple of years ago. now he has grown into a huge monster. They knew back then he was trouble, so did Iraq leadership and also at the time he was backed by Iran.

Yes. I remember that the Grand Ayatollah Sistani was willing to look the other way while we dealt with Sadr and his militia. But we let that opportunity pass.

Well, more and more people are coming to see it that way. Even I, who had such hopes for Iraq am beginning to give up. I still hope we can do something for the Kurds though. From everything I read they certainly have their act together. It amazes me the damn Shiites cannot do the same in southern Iraq. If only the north and south were settled and everyone could concentrate on the middle it might still be done. But, Sadr seems to be thwarting that. All Iraqi's ought to hate the guy cause if they slip back into some kind of religious dictatorship like Afghanistan had it will be mostly HIS FAULT. jdn

He's just a puppet whose strings are pulled from Tehran, John. Killing him would make him a martyr, from a martyr family. His father is practically a Shia saint in Iraq. It would have strengthened the Mehdi Army in Iraq instead of weakening it.

Iraq has been a mess since the days of the Mongols. Saddam kept control but it was still a mess of killing etc.

Our objective was to get rid of Saddam. We did it. We created a government and army. Time to leave them to their fate. If they continue with their mess of fighting or swamp as MSNBC says so be it. Just as long as they don't threaten us with terrorism. A couble of brigades of special forces and some airpower should be all we need their to keep intermeddlers out. Leave it a mess like the Brits did in 1920.
