You don't need an 'inkling'.

PAKISTAN has had nuclear weapons for years now.

(The Saudis financed the development, and they were helped by China.)

They even called it 'The Islamic Bomb' at the time (now, of course, with Iran working towards a bomb, they will have to call Pakistan's nuclear weapons 'The Sunni Bomb' and Iran's 'The Shi'a Bomb'....)
