Thank you for clarifying that. When people do not accept responsibility for their actions they are not fully adult. Societies that teach their faithful that they are deprived because America is successful are institutionalizing childishness. If you actually follow what I post you know that I am not a fan of President Bush's fiscal policies. His foreign policy came as a shock to everyone inside and outside the US. His foreign policy was not solidified until after 9/11; and even you have to admit that the terrorist act forced everyone to recognize that the foreign policies of the Clinton Administration had failed. It was time for a drastic shift. One huge difference between Presidents 42 and 43 was in the area of opinion, and another in morals. President Bush has both and Clinton never expressed either. Clinton would have polled to find out what he thought, just like Kerry did. President Bush knew that he believed that cowardly terrorist attacks were evil. As far as retreating from Iraq because there are transitory troubles, I cannot think of a larger strategic blunder. The "run away" mentality will embolden terrorists to sustain terrorism. We would end up with a similar result as Vietnam, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. In 2005 the US military brought on line the most potent and longest range sniper rifle in the world. It has terrorists worried. After watching their vehicles stopped by it from over a mile away, and then seeing the bodies of terrorists cut in half by it, they have become noticeably less bold in their attacks. Pessimists just look at the casualty reports, and not the character of them. It was not that long ago that terrorists would engage in fire fights. Now they just "bravely" hide among the civilians and plant IEDs. My plan would be to stay long enough to win the war against the criminal element. Don't forget that you and I matured in law abiding civilizations. Iraqis matured in a kleptocracy with respect for the power of rulers, but not respect for leadership. It takes time for people to mature. Even if true democracy never takes hold in Iraq, it gives the anti democratic forces of the Middle East a place to commit their resources to fight for the right to maintain tyrannies. Do you honestly believe that if there was no Iraq they would not be planning other ways to tweak America? (Think, USS Cole, Khobar Towers, etc.) I believe that the right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness are fundamental human rights; they are not just something we should practice at home but not allow others to have. By always helping the cause of freedom in every corner of the world, we can look at ourselves and see good. Even if despots attempt to portray us as something other than we are, we know that there is no higher secular cause than freedom. Some people never mature enough to perceive things outside the template that they learned in youth, but mature people see things and reach their own conclusions. What do you believe in?
