Sidney...I think ALL of Congress was a co-conspirator on the mess we've created in Iraq.

Shinseky said we needed MORE troops to "secure" the country and I can't remember any Republican OR Democrat saying maybe we should look more closely at Shinseky's opinion.

MY main concern before we invaded was what would happen if Saddam just pulled his Republican Guard back into the population centers and had them fight a guerilla war. Essentially that's sort of what's happening now, except in a less structured form.

There were a LOT of questions and scenarios to go over before we went into Iraq. Like, how would the Sunnis react if they were suddenly moved from the TOP of the heap to the bottom, which was undoubtedly going to happen if Iraq was democratized. Also, how would the Shiites react to the secular Chalabi as their new "U.S. anointed" leader?

It was ALL done (except the military and that SHOULDA worked at $400 BILLION per year), in such a slipshod incompetent manner. That was with TWO YEARS to plan it!!

I'd hate to think what these guys would do in a situation that took them by surprise... Oh...that's right, Katrina...I guess we already have an idea how they'd handle something like that.
