Easy enough. One morning on the Serengeti plains, Moonwatcher found a black monolith that wasn't there before...

Unfortunately, Pan Am isn't running regular flights to the orbiting station, nor is Discovery heading out on a mission to Jupiter. And HAL never made it. But Iapatus does have a large, bright spot with something smaller and dark in the middle of it...

However, the gene changed so fast that Clark said that he has a hard time believing it unless something unusual happened in a mutation. It's not part of normal evolution, he said. Haussler attributed the dramatic change to the stress of man getting out of trees and walking on two feet.

Makes you wonder if there was some contribution to the process by a higher power. Good article.
