The offerings of private schools with the notable exception of the ones for the very rich are a pale comparison to what a public school can provide.

The most important offering that schools can provide is education. Private schools, even ones that aren't for "the very rich" typically do not have a major problem in that area. In some areas the typical public school might offer more, because it uses up more resources. Its easier to provide more if you don't have to get people to voluntarily pay for it.
