I generally agree with your post.

They delivered us a Medicare bill which provided both hugely inflated costs AND lousy coverage....I'm still waiting for the 'doughnut hole' to hit right before the midterms.

I think the purpose of the doughnut hole is to cull out the poor old people. Bush is willing to toss the poor people some prescription coverage, but not too much. If the old people can make it through the donut hole period, that means they have some money of their own and worth saving. If they're sick enough to need scripts and can't afford them, we can get them off the medicare prescription program/medicare/social security by letting them die of natural causes.

They cite a rapidly cooling housing market combined...

It had to sometime. The housing market was insane. People flipping houses over short time frames for investments is not healthy. There's interesting demographics involved with the upper end housing market. Baby boomers with the big houses are becoming empty nesters and getting rid of those 10K sq. ft houses for much smaller accomodations. But there's not a younger demographic group large enough to but into the market the baby boomers are opening up. Plus with energy costs rising, who wants to heat/cool a 10K sq ft. house?

I'm not at all optimistic on the economic outlook for the next 25 years, but for today it's not bad.

Buy basic materials, IMO. Unless you're a trader.
