You have a very simplistic and ahistorical view, both of what a nation-state is, and of the mideast in general. It isn't completely your fault, it is an American disease.

I grew up in Africa in the late colonial period. I'm WELL aware of the disasters caused by outside powers assigning state boundaries which had very little to do with the local ethnic populations. Africa is littered with these abortions.

We are not debating (at least I'm not) the legitimacy of any state in the ME. If Jordan splits into two states, it does not materially affect how the Pals relate to Israel. Same goes for Lebanon or Iraq or any other Arab state.

You have not addressed the issue of who the immigrants were, who wanted MORE immigrants, and who did not want immigrants. Care to give that a shot?
