"The question was posed to Chris in light of placing him in a position of having to make a decision where the consequences of being wrong are extremly grave for millions of people."

None of whom happen to be Americans. Now personally, I think that the US has a role as the world's policeman. I also believe that the US should engage in nation building. I think that both are in the long term interest of the US. But, for this to work, we have to look beyond the immediate interests of Israel. For Israel isn't really important for the long term interests of the US.

If we really want to protect the lives of millions of people, we would get serious about Darfur and other areas. In that context, The Israelis can take care of themselves.
