I am quite familiar with Maslow's hierarchy, and your response was a good one. Toward the end of your post, you mentioned "control" (of animal impulses). This might well describe the evolution of humankind from cave dwellers to the present--always upward, although not necessarily in a straight line. However, the context of your original remark was sexual urges of gays in present times. No one is denying gays the right to have as much sexual activity as they wish. Nor is anyone denying gays the right to cohabitate with whomever they wish. The only thing they are being denied is marriage, the desire for which would not be basic, but toward the top of the Maslow hierarchy.
