A sixth-inning RBI double off the bat of Bobby Abreu, and a wild pitch out of the right hand of reliever Keith Foulke in the eighth accounted for the Yankees runs in a 2-1 victory.

Boston, MA -- The New York Yankees completed a five-game sweep in Boston with a 2-1 victory over the Red Sox.

A sixth-inning RBI double off the bat of Bobby Abreu, and a wild pitch out of the right hand of reliever Keith Foulke in the eighth accounted for the Yankees runs.

Wily Mo Pena's solo home run in the eighth took care of the Bosox scoring.

Cory Lidle pitched six shutout innings and is (2-2) after coming over to the Yanks in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Kyle Farnsworth got the last three outs while manager Joe Torre rested closer Mariano Rivera, and notched his second save in six opportunities.

Bosox starter David Wells pitched 7 1/3 strong innings but was tagged with the loss and drops to (2-3).

Both the Yankees and Red Sox now head out to the west coast with New York leading Boston by a season-high 6 1/2 games atop the American League East.

According to ESPN.COM, the Cleveland Indians were that last team to sweep the Red Sox in a five game series. That was in 1954.

The Yankees swept Boston in five games in New York in 1951 and at Fenway in 1943.

It's Boston's fault. They have more money than god, and they didn't spend it.
