I would venture to guess we could knock about 3MM BPD out by going to the heavy scooter/light car approach and putting the SUVs up on blocks.

Judging from the slow sales of SUVs and the number of basically brand new SUVs being sold at firesales on ebay, I think this is already happening.

But it doesn't matter anyway.

I never saw that movie "who killed the electric car" (available on google or itunes). But that is the typical story out of detroit when it comes to some new innovation- "we can't build it, we need government support, we can't build a hydrogen vehicle without billions of support from the government for hydrogen gas stations and special roads BLAH BLAH BLAH".

Meanwhile years go by and nothing gets done, absolutely NOTHING on alternative fuel/car innovation.

meanwhile silicon valley has billions in uninvested funds just waiting for an excuse to fund some startup. The new car companies here aren't going to DC for funding, they are doing it the TRADITIONAL way with a small company to start and a high pricepoint for early adopters. I think a bunch of these companies are going to go.
