Israelis may be on to something here as a minister just proposed weaning syria away from iran thru negotiations over Golan.

I agree. It is a bold move, and the Israelis are dangling this carrot in front of Assad, which could give him a "face-saving" way out of the current strategic situation Syria is in.

I don't know if he has the guts to accept that carrot, since I'm sure there are factions within his government that would be completely opposed to any peace treaty with Israel.

But the US, as I recall, has had some very direct talks with Bashir, showing him the advantages of being contributor to peace, and the repercussions of being an agitator.

And let's face reality, the US can do more for Assad's regime than anything Iran is able to do. And Assad is probably receiving a bit of prodding from the Saudis as well to distance himself from Iran.

In every crisis, there lies opportunities. Let's see if the parties have the wisdom to seize those that lead to peace.
