I can accept that people have the right to choose exactly what level of personal freedoms they wish to retain for themselves, and how much authority they want to grant to the government they elect. There is always a shifting balance between personal freedom and collective social order. But the essence of democracy is the government is held accountable via a free and fair electoral process that grants the people the viable option to replace the current government with one that meets their expectations. Power and authority derived from the people being governed, and not by the Fiat proclamations of some power elite who have the coercive means to eliminate rivals to their power. Power derived from the people being governed is the only legitimate form of government. Hawk
